Make it stick

Six habits that make the daily list easy

The list is short by design. These are the habits that keep it short.

  • Front-load the morning

Make the beds and wipe the bathroom counters first thing. It takes five minutes and sets the tone for the rest of the day.

  • Clean as you go

Wipe the stovetop while dinner cools. Load the dishes straight after eating. Small actions stop big messes forming.

  • Ten minutes before bed

Reset the house before you turn in: things away, cushions straightened, tomorrow's mess prevented.

  • Follow the one-touch rule

When you pick something up, put it where it belongs. Do not set it down somewhere else for now.

  • Keep supplies where you use them

A pack of wipes in each bathroom and one in the kitchen removes the excuse of fetching something first.

  • Share it out

Give everyone a task they can actually do. Daily cleaning is much shorter when it is not one person's job.

  • Many people find success doing quick tasks in the morning (making beds, kitchen wipe-down) and a 10-minute tidy in the evening. Find what works for your schedule.

  • Don't stress! Just pick up where you left off. The goal is progress, not perfection. Even doing half the list is better than nothing.

  • Absolutely! Even young children can help with age-appropriate tasks like putting away toys or making their beds. Shared responsibility makes cleaning faster and teaches good habits.
